Course overview

This 1-hour course introduces EMS providers to the key provisions of the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPAA) and their application in the field. Learners will review the history and structure of HIPAA, including the Privacy and Security Rules, and explore requirements for safeguarding individually identifiable health information. Emphasis is placed on proper disclosure, minimum necessary standards, administrative responsibilities, and integrating HIPAA compliance into EMS documentation, reporting, and patient interactions.
