This course provides exploration of the sensory systems, with a focus on how they relate to sensory processing and how occupational therapy interventions can support individuals with sensory processing challenges. Course objectives include describing the function of each sensory system and explaining how sensory information is processed to inform behavior, learning, and daily functioning, individualized sensory strategies that promote self-regulation, reduce sensory overload, and enhance participation in activities, designing and monitoring sensory diets that include a variety of activities to aid the children you work with in sensory regulation, and setting up and utilizing sensory rooms, including selecting appropriate tools and activities to address individual sensory needs.
