Course overview

This 3 hour course provides EMS providers with a comprehensive understanding of the physics and biomechanics of traumatic injury. Participants will apply Newton's laws of motion to predict injury patterns in blunt and penetrating trauma, review collision dynamics, restraint systems, and blast mechanisms, and analyze ballistic factors influencing tissue damage. Emphasis is placed on recognizing predictable injury pathways from vehicle crashes, pedestrian and motorcycle impacts, falls, sports trauma, and penetrating injuries, enabling providers to develop an accurate index of suspicion and deliver timely, effective patient care.
