This 2 hour course trains EMTs to apply selective spinal immobilization using current evidence and national guidance. Learners review spine anatomy, mechanisms of injury, and the difference between spinal motion restriction and routine long backboard use. The course covers focused neurologic assessment, NEXUS and Canadian C Spine decision tools, high risk and unreliable patient factors, and indications to withhold or initiate immobilization. Emphasis is on safe patient handling, pediatric and geriatric considerations, documentation of decision making, and protocol aligned transport.
