Course overview
Pain is a fundamental human experience that serves as a protective warning system. However a growing population lives with chronic debilitating pain that persists beyond its protective purpose creating challenges for both patients and clinicians. This course explores the neurological origins of pain perception to expand rehabilitation professionals' understanding of acute and chronic pain. Understanding pain neuroscience and the interaction between interventions and the nervous system provides clinicians with greater insight into effective management and coping strategies. This course aims to introduce the neurological origins of pain perception and explain the differences between acute and chronic pain at a neurological level.
