Baby Steps: Introduction to Contemporary Neuro-Developmental Treatment (NDT) for Infants

Course overview

It is a special joy to work with infants and toddlers. In this interactive course, participants will apply principles of evidence-based motor control theories and neuroplasticity to assess movement problems and develop effective intervention strategies. Participants will gain an understanding of postural control and its relationship to movement, including play, transitions, speech, feeding, and communication. Therapists will learn through assessment of neurotypical and atypical babies to guide the development of effective treatment strategies. Participants will learn and practice various treatment strategies, including transitions, upright posture, postural control, rib cage mobility, upper extremity, and feeding/speech activities to achieve meaningful functional participation outcomes appropriate for this age group, as well as how to collaborate with parents to incorporate therapeutic routines into daily family life. Therapists will analyze and apply strategies through lectures, videos, and labs, all designed to provide therapists with ideas and tools they can instantly apply to this age group in their practice. Case studies include babies with prematurity, developmental delay, cerebral palsy, Down syndrome, and other impairments.
