This two-day interactive in-person seminar will utilize lectures, hands-on labs, video analysis, group and individual problem-solving, and patient demonstrations to challenge participants to improve their clinical management of individuals with a diagnosis of stroke or other neurological pathology by understanding the whole body. Emphasis will be placed on identifying and incorporating strategies that help all disciplines - PT, OT, and SLP - manage many parts of the body to enhance UE function, as well as to manage their own discipline goals in ways that support UE function and do not limit it. Various upper extremity challenges will be discussed within a problem-solving framework. Labs will allow time for participants to learn and practice hands-on treatment strategies for specific patient problems at various levels of function. Application of these concepts to the evaluation and treatment of an actual patient will be demonstrated, with participants actively involved in the problem-solving process. Participants will explore the following questions, learn to use NDT problem-solving to find answers, and improve their skills in applying what they've learned in these areas to the direct "hands-on" treatment of patients.
