This class is a focus on abdominal work and its connection to overall health and wellness. We will discuss the benefits and contraindications of abdominal work to the digestive, respiratory, reproductive, musculoskeletal, lymphatic system, fascial network and the nervous system. We will also discuss the emotional aspects of abdominal work and how it can be helpful in releasing trauma. There will be hands-on practice and exchange. Students will: 1.Describe to a client the benefits of abdominal massage. 2.Recognize contraindications to abdominal massage. 3.Experience and recognize the appropriate level of touch in an abdominal massage. 4.Discuss abdominal massage effects on the digestive system. 5.Discuss the diaphragm and the effects of massage on the respiratory system. 6.Discuss the impact of abdominal massage on the female reproductive system. 7. Discuss perinatal abdominal massage. 8.Discuss the role of the abdominal muscles in posture and balance. 9.Discuss the lymphatic system and the pathways that pass through the abdomen. 10. Discuss pathologies that are common in the abdomen. 11.Explain how isotonic and isometric exercises can help strengthen and train the pelvic floor. 12.Eliminate fascial congestion and restrictions with gentle myofascial abdominal massage. 13.Locate and gently release the psoas. 14.Be aware of the vulnerability some clients can experience with abdominal work. 15.Demonstrate proper draping for abdominal massage. 16.Exchange a one hour abdominal focused massage.
