Course overview

Biomechanics is how the body manages and channels physical energy and force. Interoception is the internal sense of energy, and what is happening inside your body. Current research demonstrates that interoceptive sensing, the internal awareness of physiological states, plays a crucial role in emotional regulation, cognitive function, and pain perception in addition to basic biologic mammalian functions, e.g. locomotion. This course addresses the growing recognition that to address and prevent progression to chronic pain, effective neuromusculoskeletal treatment requires integration of physical and behavioral interventions to promote lasting therapeutic outcomes and patient agency. Neuromusculoskeletal clinicians and other healing professionals who recognize the interdependences of body and mind can and should promote self awareness, self-efficacy and personal agency. This course presents a biobehavioral approach to promote biomechanic self care with awareness of ones own body, towards influencing our physiology and psychology, our actions, attitude and behaviors.
