Course overview

This advanced course on diabetes medications can be taken as Part 2 of a series or on its own. Course objectives are: Identify the main goals of diabetic medication management and hyperglycemia management. Describe the various methods of insulin administration, different types of insulin, and the rationale of correction or supplemental insulin. Describe the use of technology in the management of diabetes, including continuous glucose monitoring, insulin pumps, and the bionic pancreas. Identify hypoglycemic protocols for individuals with diabetes. Describe the different types of actions, advantages, and disadvantages for oral diabetic agents used to manage hyperglycemia. Identify the actions, advantages, and disadvantages of non-insulin injectable medications for the management of type 2 diabetes. Identify some of the non-diabetic types of medication for long-term disease management of diabetes.
