Implementing a Person-Centered Planning Approach in Behavioral Health
Tracking # 20-1336252
Course overview
Person-centered planning was first developed to better support individuals with developmental disabilities and older adults. Because of its success, this approach is now encouraged across many areas of care, including work with children and individuals with behavioral health needs. To use person-centered planning effectively, providers often need additional training and support to build the skills and confidence needed for this approach (Choy-Brown et al., 2020). This course will discuss how person-centered planning promotes engagement, autonomy, and cultural responsiveness in behavioral healthcare. It will identify strategies for involving individuals and their natural support systems throughout the planning process. Finally, it will indicate how to navigate common challenges in person-centered planning.
