Learn moreCourse overview
On-demand (recorded) course Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) for couples is an evidence-based approach to couples therapy with strong evidence indicating that it significantly improves relationship satisfaction and reduces conflict for couples (Beasley & Ager, 2019). At the same time, there are numerous nuances to learn when practicing effective EFT with couples. All EFT therapists know the value of a warm, empathic, and nonjudgmental stance toward our couples. However, tactical approaches are necessary to focus sessions and to work through client blocks to create successful EFT sessions. The presenter will discuss how to use the acronym TEMP (trigger, emotion, meaning-making, and protective action) as guides through Tango moves 1 and 2. We will discuss how to identify client blocks, and how the acronym CPR (capture, permission, and return) provides structure to address the block and get back on mission for the EFT couples therapy session. Participants will leave this webinar with additional tools they can use to increase effectiveness of their EFT work with couples. This is an intermediate-level webinar that is appropriate for licensed mental health professionals and students in mental health graduate training programs.
