Foundations of Spinal Manipulation is an advanced, evidence-based, two-day intensive course designed for licensed physical therapists seeking to develop a strong theoretical and practical foundation in high-velocity, low-amplitude (HVLA) thrust manipulation of the spine. The course synthesizes the latest biomechanical, neurophysiological, and safety research with clinical reasoning and patient-centered practice to prepare clinicians to safely and effectively integrate spinal thrust techniques within the broader framework of orthopedic manual therapy. Participants will explore current evidence on the mechanisms and outcomes of spinal manipulation, learn precise patient selection and risk-mitigation strategies, and acquire hands-on skills in regional HVLA thrust techniques covering the cervical, cervicothoracic, thoracic, thoracolumbar, lumbar, lumbosacral, and sacroiliac regions. at the end of this course participants will be able to: 1.Describe the current scientific evidence supporting spinal manipulation, including its biomechanical, neurophysiological, and clinical outcomes. 2. Identify absolute and relative contraindications to manipulation and perform pre-thrust screening and vascular assessment according to the IFOMPT Cervical Framework. 3. Apply clinical reasoning to determine when manipulation is appropriate and when it should be avoided. 4.Explain the principles of spinal biomechanics: including Type I and II mechanics and facets opposition. 5. Demonstrate accurate patient positioning, therapist body mechanics, and controlled delivery of HVLA thrusts for each spinal region. 6.Discuss the neurophysiological effects of spinal manipulation on pain modulation and muscle activation.
