Course overview

This comprehensive 3-hour continuing education course is designed for licensed practical nurses (LPNs), registered nurses (RNs), and advanced practice registered nurses (APRNs) who manage wounds across acute, chronic, and complex care settings. With a blended care focus, the course explores current evidence-based practices for wound healing physiology, accurate staging and assessment, infection prevention, dressing selection, debridement strategies, and emerging technologies such as negative pressure therapy and remote wound monitoring. Nurses will deepen their understanding of wound healing barriers and critically evaluate case-based interventions for various wound types including diabetic ulcers, burns, surgical wounds, and pressure injuries. Conduct comprehensive wound assessments including tissue classification, staging, and documentation standards. Identify and implement appropriate evidence-based interventions including topical agents, dressings, and debridement techniques. Apply knowledge of advanced modalities such as negative pressure wound therapy (NPWT), skin substitutes, and remote wound monitoring in clinical practice.
