Sand, Soul, and Metaphor An Intermodal Expressive Arts Therapy Journey

Course overview

Dr. Dr. Eliana Gil, Ph.D, LMFT, RPT, ATR Kathleen Horne, MA, LMHC, REACE, REAT Tamara Knapp, MA, LMHC, REACE Expressive Arts Therapy, Sand Therapy, and Play Therapy are each distinct, and also related, fields. Each is its own unique discipline and tradition, and they overlap in their guiding principles and experiential, person-centered approach. In this brand new innovative training, we bring together 3 experts in these disciplines for an integrative workshop that weaves together the threads of each into a dynamic intermodal journey that will both nourish you and enliven your work. The creation of a sand tray will be the portal into an integrated seamless flow of writing, nature-based practice, movement, sound, music, image-making, and guided meditation, deepening your understanding of your sand image and connecting you with your ever present internal thread of creative wisdom. You will be in a safe and kind atmosphere in which to interact with the environment and community, inspiring creative imagination and and honoring the wisdom we all possess. No experience with expressive modalities is required. The basic principles and benefits of expressive arts therapy will be presented so that you may embrace them in your life and therapy practice. Lively dialogue will encourage you to visualize and begin implementing intermodal, interdisciplinary processes into your clinical work with child and/or adult clients.
