Course overview

Each year, over 380,000 infants are born prematurely in the U.S., many requiring NICU care and specialized follow-up. Without targeted support, these infants face increased risks of motor, sensory, and feeding difficulties, impacting both short- and long-term development. Early, neuroprotective interventions by skilled therapists can reduce complications, improve family well-being, and enhance functional outcomes. This workshop empowers therapists with strategies for assessing and treating high-risk infants in the NICU and during early follow-up. Participants will explore hands-on techniques, trauma-informed approaches, and culturally responsive care methods that can be immediately applied in practice. Attendees will leave with the confidence to support infants' development and collaborate effectively with NICU and community teams to promote smoother transitions home.
