Caring for Medically Fragile Children: A 10-Hour In-Service Training for Home Health Aides

Course overview

This 10-hour in-service course prepares home health aides to meet the specialized needs of medically fragile children in home settings. Participants will explore pediatric infection control, safe medication and oxygen use, nutrition and feeding support, growth and development, emergency preparedness, family communication, legal documentation, and self-care. Emphasis is placed on understanding complex pediatric conditions, collaborating effectively with families and healthcare teams, and maintaining professional standards of safety and compassion. Completion of this course, combined with approved HIV/AIDS and CPR training, fulfills the 12-hour annual in-service requirement outlined in Florida Statute 400.4765(4). Although developed specifically for HHAs, this training can benefit all caregivers including CNAs, LPNs, and RNs.
