Course overview

The fascial system plays an integral role in movement as well as visceral function. This course reviews the current understanding of fascial anatomy starting at the cellular level with the role hyaluronic acid and the extracellular matrix play in maintaining homeostasis to the macroscopic assessment of the myofascial system as it relates to movement and kinetic chain assessment. The clinical assessment of the major fascial slings and sub-systems will be reviewed and discussed. The use of an emerging modality, transfer of energy capacitive and resistive, TECAR, will be presented as an effective tool to impact the fascia at the cellular level in addition to the current trends in the application of manual myofascial techniques from foam rollers to instrument assisted soft tissue mobilization as low tech solutions to myofascial management.
