Course overview

By the end of this course, you should be able to have the following objectives completed. Identify the primary, secondary, and tertiary strategies for preventing aggression. Understand the essential role of human relationships in supporting people. Understand the fundamental principles of mindfulness in helping and how they influence the way services and supports are provided. Understand how to determine the functions of a persons behavior and how to use this information to construct effective and meaningful support plans. Understand the nature and consequences of trauma in people receiving services and how to provide trauma informed supports. Understand instrumental and reactive aggression and how to prevent and intervene in both. Become familiar with the brain-based communication and Polyvagal Theory. The course will assist participants in understanding the importance of therapeutics relationships in working effectively with clients who have experienced trauma and the impact it has on regulating the nervous system.
