Course overview

This comprehensive continuing education course equips nurses with advanced knowledge and practical skills for managing pain across diverse patient populations and clinical settings. Emphasizing a multimodal, evidence-based approach, the course explores pain physiology, assessment tools, pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic strategies, population-specific adaptations, and ethical and legal considerations, including opioid stewardship and end-of-life care. Through in-depth content and case-based reflection, nurses will enhance their ability to provide safe, individualized, and compassionate pain management while navigating the complex clinical, regulatory, and emotional dimensions of pain care. Learning Objectives: By the end of this course, participants will be able to: Differentiate among various types of pain and their underlying mechanisms. Apply appropriate pain assessment tools tailored to diverse patient populations. Identify implementation practices for pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic pain management strategies. Address the challenges of managing pain in special populations. Evaluate the ethical considerations and legal requirements associated with pain management, including opioid prescribing and safe medication disposal.
