Course overview

Dementia presents a complex interplay between neurological, behavioral, and psychosocial factors that challenge even the most experienced care providers. This session will deepen participants' clinical assessment skills of how to distinguish normal aging processes from the early clinical indicators of dementia, emphasizing the importance of accurate recognition and person centered intervention. Through an integrative, evidence-based lens, participants will examine common behavioral and communication changes that emerge as dementia progresses and develop practical, person-centered strategies to respond effectively. Emphasis will be placed on adaptive communication, environmental cueing, and interprofessional collaboration to maintain dignity, safety, and emotional connection across all stages of the disease from initial recognition to end of life care.
