Research has long supported the critical role families (and other natural supports) play in improving outcomes for individuals living with serious mental health conditions (e.g., schizophrenia spectrum, bipolar, major depressive disorders). However, therapeutic and psychoeducational work with families/natural supports remains an underutilized service. This training will help learners understand the role that family/natural supports play in treatment outcomes and recovery of individuals living with a serious mental health condition. Learners will gain skills, knowledge, and confidence in providing family education and support services, such as engagement strategies for involving family/natural supports as part of the FIRST team.
