A Total Wound Care Approach: Improving the Physical and Emotional Health of Patients

Course overview

In this 1-hour RACE-approved lecture, attendees will start with a refresher on the pathophysiology around wound healing in dogs and cats. This will include both gross and microscopic descriptions. Attendees will then discuss different pain points around treating wounds with a heavy focus on fear, anxiety, and stress in both patients and clients. This moves into physical factors that impede wound healing (immune suppression, inflammation, etc.) Understanding what creates an ideal healing environment takes attendees towards an introduction to a new standard of wound care that considers our patients' physical and emotional health. The final section of the lecture will include case-based discussions with strategies for general and emergency practices around workflow implementation and client communication.
