Course overview
In this seminar students will study theories and evidence based counseling frameworks. Discussions will focus on person centered care and evidence of effectiveness in understanding and applying theory. Students will study the ways in which person centered care is individualized, accounts for the persons developmental status, culture, and characteristics. In addition to understanding the value of strengths based and solution focused approaches, particular attention will be paid to approaches which are culturally responsive, de-stigmatize substance related disorders, and which counteract discrimination or prejudice experienced by individuals and/or groups.
