Course overview

RegVet CE is designed with content specific to the responsibilities assigned to and skills required of racing regulatory veterinarians who often are tasked with overseeing the safety, welfare, and integrity if the horseracing industry, specifically its equine athletes. This continuing education program is designed to provide clinical and scientific tools to aide regulatory veterinarians in accomplishing their day-to-day responsibilities, the theme of this meeting is "Knowledge is Power - Strengthening the Regulatory Veterinarian's Clinical and Scientific Expertise". The content of this meeting will focus on a deep dive into the use of diagnostics, covering cardio-pulmonary and musculoskeletal systems, as a tool to aide decision making, review of new research into emerging technologies to identify risk factors with the possibility of preventing exercise associated sudden death, a review of how to clinically recognize lameness in the context of the pre-race exam using case videos, review of case histories to use as tools for risk assessment strategies, communication workshop and how to have the difficult conversation, overview of human sport approach to anti-doping, review of climate smart competition protocols and their application to racing, USDA's perspective on recent Equine Infectious Anemia outbreaks. The overall learning objective is to foster enhanced and uniform standards or practice among regulatory veterinarians across all domestic and international racing jurisdictions.
