Megan Elliott is a graduate of West Liberty University with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology. She is a dedicated mental health advocate and trainer in courses such as Mental Health First Aid, SafeTALK, and Crisis Intervention Training. For over three years, she has served as a Family Services Navigator act the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) in West Virginia, where Megan facilitates family support and education programs, provide suicide intervention and mental health trainings, and work to raise awareness about mental health. Megan Elliott's presentation, "Teen Mental Health, Understanding Challenges, Crisis, and Support Strategies" will educate school nurses on the importance of mental health in the schools. The objectives are: (1) Participants will learn how to identify at least three common mental health challenges amongst teens. (2) Participants will learn how to identify a teen in crisis and at least two ways on how to de-escalate a teen crisis situation. (3) Participants will increase their knowledge of risks for teenagers and protective factors they may use.
