Course overview

Are your TGNB clients educating YOU about their challenges and clinical concerns? With TGNB concerns changing and developing so rapidly, it is not surprising. And you might be using outdated treatment strategies that lack perspective which can cause serious harm. Even if you do not specialize in working with this population, it is only a matter of time before you will need to. As more of the TGNB population begin seeking care in the general practice setting due to the increase in need. As a clinician and mother of a trans son, I have devoted 12 years researching and developing affirming care for the TGBN population. Join me as I guide you through the best practices and teach you step-by-step how to support your client as they navigate their unique challenges and sensitive needs, including coming out, discrimination, hormones, comorbidities, assessment, and helping parents, kids, and adults through life transitions. Together we will work though case studies and small group activities to support your learning. You will learn: *Dos and do nots of establishing an inclusive and welcoming space *Affirmative language and how to work from an affirming lens *Gender dysphoria interventions to improve quality of life *How to use terms such as gender queer, transphobia, gender fluid and cisgender correctly *Specific interviewing strategies including what questions should be avoided *How to support your clients progress in the face of any coexisting mental health concerns *Gender affirming procedures and practices letter writing *Risk and protective factors that impact our transgender clients every day *Effective interventions to mitigate the negatives that cause our clients so much pain. Begin your journey now to start providing a safe place for all your clients to receive the care they deserve so they can genuinely be themselves and live their most authentic lives.
