Addressing Hoarding and Animal Hoarding with Compassion

Course overview

Cases involving individuals who show symptoms of hoarding disorder, including animal hoarding are among the most complex and ethically challenging situations that professionals encounter. This workshop offers an overview of hoarding disorder highlighting assessment and intervention strategies and discusses opportunities to collaborate across systems. In addition this workshop offers a practical ethical framework to help social workers, counselors, MTF, nurses and others approach these cases with clarity and confidence. Through real works scenarios professionals will examine how to balance autonomy and protection, capacity and risk, and personal values and community standards. Participants will also learn how to align professional standards, legal mandates and ethical principals in ways that uphold a persons dignity while promoting safety and well being.
