Course Title: HIV/AIDS: Nursing Responsibilities, Prevention, and Florida Law Course Description: This one hour continuing education course provides Florida nurses with current, evidence-based information on HIV and AIDS. The course reviews transmission, prevention strategies, infection control practices, and treatment advances. Learners will explore Florida's Omnibus AIDS Act and related statutes governing confidentiality, mandatory testing, and criminal transmission. Case-based scenarios illustrate nursing responsibilities in patient counseling, occupational exposure, and cultural competence. The course emphasizes the nurse's role in prevention, advocacy, and linkage to care while fulfilling Florida Board of Nursing HIV/AIDS CEU requirements under Florida Statute 456.033. Learning Outcomes: 1 - Define HIV and AIDS and explain their historical emergence. 2 - Identify modes of transmission and apply prevention strategies. 3 - Review infection control practices and occupational safety standards. 4 - Apply Florida statutes and legal responsibilities in nursing practice. 5 - Provide culturally competent patient education and advocacy. Target Audience: Registered Nurses (RNs), Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs), and Advanced Practice Registered Nurses (APRNs) licensed in Florida. Completion Requirements: - Review all course materials. - Achieve a passing score of 70 percent or higher on the final exam. - Submit the evaluation survey. - Course credit will be reported to CE Broker upon completion.
