Course overview

In this 60-minute presentation, we will provide an in-depth overview of canine leptospirosis, focusing on recent advancements in its pathophysiology, diagnosis, treatment, and prevention. We will begin with an update on the bacterial strains involved, their modes of infection, and immune responses, followed by a discussion of the wide-ranging clinical manifestations of the disease. The second half will cover diagnostic innovations, including new testing methodologies, as well as the latest treatment protocols for managing leptospirosis, including antimicrobial therapy, supportive care, and handling complications and knowing when to refer. The presentation will conclude with an update on prevention strategies, including vaccination, biosecurity measures, and emerging public health concerns.
