Course overview

Occupational justice promotes the belief that individuals have the right to engage in occupations to sustain a healthy quality of life. For stroke survivors, the sudden change in functional abilities that occurs in context of neurological impairment, causes a disruption in one's occupational identity--that is, one's sense of self and relation to the world. In this course, we will review the occupational justice framework, and use it as a lens through which to analyze and contextualize the difficulties faced by stroke survivors. The aim of this course is to provide clinicians with an evidence-based method with which to approach assessment and treatment of stroke patients and drive outcomes, taking into consideration the intersectionality of all the various determinants of health, functioning, and well-being needed to support meaningful engagement in life's occupations.
