Course overview

As ED volumes and wait times increase, the challenge of performing a complete and accurate triage assessment has never been more critical. Moreover, increased wait times compound the risk associated with inaccurate triage assessments. Errors in triage assessment can lead to significantly increased patient morbidity and mortality, as well as medical malpractice litigation; clearly, triage errors can have dire consequences for all parties involved. This course focuses on triage assessment and documentation. Each lesson explores various aspects of determining triage levels and validating those triage decisions through careful triage notes. Knowledge of the ESI and CTAS triage scoring systems is assumed, having been covered in the second course in this series, Triage Practice Standards.
