Triage Fundamentals #05: Special Considerations At Triage

Course overview

There is a wide span of age demographics among patients and a variety of trauma etiologies; therefore, the triage nurse must remain vigilant for special considerations. Four areas of special considerations will be addressed in this course: The Pediatric Patient; The Geriatric Patient; Kinematics of Injury; Telephone Triage. Understanding the special considerations related to the pediatric and geriatric patient populations as well as the kinematics of injury and telephone protocols will help the emergency department nurse make informed sorting decisions at triage.
