BARIATRIC BED: USING

Course overview

A bariatric bed is a hospital bed that is designed for use by patients who are morbidly obese (i.e., ≥ 100 pounds overweight or with a body mass index [BMI] ≥ 40; also called bariatric patients). The standard bariatric bed is slightly wider than the standard hospital bed but is easily maneuvered through hospital doorways. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of the use of a bariatric bed, the indications, background knowledge, and steps required for use of a bariatric bed. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
