Course overview

Australian Aboriginal culture is believed to be the oldest living cultural history in the world. Although indigenous people comprise a small percentage (2.6%) of the total Australian population, there exist nearly 400 Aboriginal groups (tribes) that speak over 20 unique languages. Although most modern day Aboriginal people (AP) are greatly influenced by non-indigenous culture and practices, some aspects of the traditional culture continue to strongly influence their daily lives. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of the Australian Aboriginal population in order to better care for APAs. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
