Course overview

Shrinking and molding of an amputation stump involves the use of pressure to decrease the size and change the shape of the stump. Amputation stumps are shrunk and molded into a conical shape in preparation for proper fitting of a prosthesis. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of relevant research on the general principles of shrinking and molding an amputation stump, including why this is performed and how to prevent complications associated with the procedure. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
