ALOPECIA IN CHILDREN AND ADOLESCENTS

Course overview

Alopecia is loss of hair on the head and/or body. In children and adolescents, alopecia usually affects the scalp. Causes of alopecia in children and adolescents include autoimmune disorders, malnutrition or malabsorption, changes in the scalp or hair shaft, severe illness, trauma, surgery, childbirth, use of certain medications, and environmental factors. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of alopecia in children and adolescents, including its etiology and treatment to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
