Course overview

Aseptic (or sterile) technique, an important component of infection prevention, refers to a set of practices performed immediately before, during, and immediately after invasive procedures that help to reduce the risk of post-procedure infections and the exposure to healthcare workers of potentially infectious microbes. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of the use of aseptic technique as a component of infection prevention, including the step-by-step process to aid in caring for the patient requiring aseptic technique. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
