Course overview
Anticoagulant drugs, prescribed as either thrombotic prophylaxis or treatment for an existing thrombotic process, decrease risk for thromboembolic events by interrupting the coagulation cascade. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of anticoagulation monitoring, including information on risk factors for adverse reactions to anticoagulant drugs, symptoms of anticoagulation toxicity, and laboratory tests used to monitor anticoagulant therapy, and to aid in caring for the patient receiving anticoagulants. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
