Course overview

Anticoagulation refers to the prevention of thrombosis. Anticoagulation therapy is indicated for treatment of patients with acute thrombosis and for prophylaxis in those at risk for thrombosis due to a hypercoagulable condition, trauma, or procedure (e.g., prothrombin gene mutation, pregnancy, recent surgery). This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of relevant research regarding anticoagulation, including information on risk, symptoms, clinical presentation, treatment, and treatment goals for the healthcare provider. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
