AUTOMATED EXTERNAL DEFIBRILLATOR: USE OF IN-HOSPITAL

Course overview

An automated external defibrillator (AED) is a computerized device that is capable of analyzing cardiac rhythm and determining whether or not an unsynchronized electrical current (commonly referred to as a shock) should be delivered to a person who is in cardiac arrest resulting from ventricular tachycardia (VT) and does not have a pulse, or to a person who is in cardiac arrest resulting from ventricular fibrillation (VF). This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of defibrillation using an AED in the hospital setting. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
