APPENDECTOMY

Course overview

Appendectomy is the surgical removal of the appendix. An appendectomy is performed to treat appendicitis, thereby preventing rupture of the appendix and the possible resultant complication of peritonitis. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of appendectomy, the clinical presentation, symptoms, and indications for surgical treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient after this surgical procedure. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
