BRONCHIOLITIS: RESPIRATORY SYNCYTIAL VIRUS

Course overview

Bronchiolitis is an acute inflammation of the lower respiratory airways (bronchioles; the narrow, thin-walled airways that branch off the bronchi), usually produced by a viral infection. Most cases in infants are caused by respiratory syncytial virus (RSV; the most common acute infection of the lower respiratory tract in this age group). This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of bronchiolitis caused by RSV, its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
