BONE MARROW ASPIRATION: ASSISTING WITH DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURE

Course overview

Bone marrow aspiration (BMA) refers to the removal of liquid specimen of bone marrow (i.e., the spongy core of some of the larger bones) for the purpose of detection of abnormalities, including hematologic disorders. Bone marrow consists of a suspension of blood, fat, and immature blood cells. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of assisting with the diagnostic procedure of BMA, including process, risks, benefits, and possible complications, and to aid in caring for the patient with this procedure. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
