Course overview

A carotid stent is a device placed in the carotid artery during angioplasty in order to treat carotid stenosis (i.e., narrowing of the carotid artery) and reduce the risk of ischemic stroke. A stent is a small mesh-like coil made of metal (e.g., titanium, nickel, or stainless steel) that expands to unblock and prevent the reocclusion of the internal lumen of carotid arteries. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of caring for patients after CAS. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
