Course overview

Calciphylaxis (also called calcific uremic arteriolopathy [CUA]), the result of a metabolic derangement that leads to hyperparathyroidism, is an extremely painful ulceration of the skin caused by the deposition of calcium phosphate crystals in the walls of arterioles and small arteries and in subcutaneous tissue. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of current knowledge about calciphylaxis, including its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
