Course overview

Invasive neonatal candidiasis is a life-threatening systemic infection caused by yeast of the genus Candida. The condition is most common in extremely low-birth-weight (ELBW) neonates (< 1,000 g) whose immune defenses are depressed and in neonates whose immune systems have been altered by disease or therapy. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of invasive neonatal candidiasis, including its clinical presentation, symptoms, and treatment, and to aid in caring for the patient with this diagnosis. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
