Course overview

A cesarean section (C-section) is a surgical procedure in which incisions are made in a pregnant woman’s abdomen (i.e., laparotomy) and uterus (i.e., hysterotomy) for removal of a fetus, placenta, and membranes. A C-section is usually performed when a vaginal delivery would place the life or health of the fetus or mother at risk. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of a C-section, including indications for a C-section and potential complications, and to aid in caring for the patient undergoing this procedure. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
