Course overview
Closed intermittent bladder irrigation (CIBI) is a method of bladder irrigation in which a limited volume of fluid is instilled into the bladder via a closed drainage system. Continuous bladder irrigation is most commonly performed to maintain urinary catheter patency by removing tissue, clots, mucous fragments, and/or sediment following prostate or bladder surgery. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of why CIBI is performed, how to perform CIBI, and signs and symptoms of complications of CIBI to aid in performing this procedure. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
