Course overview

Blood filters are manufactured devices made of non-woven synthetic mesh fibers that are attached to blood administration sets in order to retain clots, cells, and debris. Blood filters are categorized as first-, second-, and third-generation filters. This continuing education module is designed to give the reader/learner an increased understanding of using blood filters during the transfusion of blood products, including the types of filters commonly used, and indications and purpose for use. Readers may explore any or all of the topics. One contact hour of continuing education credit is available for those who successfully complete the post-test and evaluation form.
